Field Training Program

Upon successful completion of the Norman Police Academy, probationary officers will participate in field training for 16-weeks rotating through all three patrol shifts to finish their training process.

All probationary officers who complete the Field Training Program are assigned to one of three patrol shifts. All patrol shifts are ten hours in length. Patrol officers work four days on with three days off.

After successful completion of the training program, officers are removed from probationary status. Daily activities include patrolling the City of Norman, responding to calls for service, investigating crimes and traffic collisions, making arrests, issuing citations, working with citizens to solve community problems, assisting other local first responders, and testifying in municipal and state court. There are also opportunities to join special teams and advance into leadership roles as you progress through your career as a Norman Police Officer.
