Physical Fitness Test
The test is located at 3942 Jenkins Ave. Please arrive on time, as late arrivals and no-shows will be removed from the hiring process.
Bring: Valid driver's license, athletic clothing/shoes, & water (earbuds optional for the run).
The test consists of a trigger pull assessment, 500-meter row, and 1.5-mile run after a 10-minute rest period. Your row and run scores are averaged, and you must achieve at least the 45th percentile to pass. No retests are permitted during the current hiring process.
The test session typically lasts less than one hour. Please print, sign, and bring this required Test Waiver, or you may complete one at check-in. Weather may affect scheduling, so monitor your email for any updates.

Written Examination
You will be provided a link to schedule your written exam once you pass the PFT. If you submitted a POSSE exam with your application and it was accepted, then this step has already been completed.
Bring: Valid driver's license, business casual clothing, & water.
The Norman PD Applicant Exam evaluates the foundational skills needed to succeed as a police officer. The exam consists of 70 questions covering:
Math & Navigation
Reading Comprehension
Grammar, Spelling & Usage
Judgment & Foundational Decision-Making
Incident Comprehension (Short Written)
Written Expression
Each section is individually timed, with a total testing time of approximately 90 minutes. Applicants must achieve an overall score of 70% or higher to pass.

Personal History
Download the required forms above and read all instructions carefully before you begin. Whenever possible, complete the Personal History Statement (PHS) on a computer and save your work frequently.
Once finished, email your completed PHS and all required documents to Police.Recruiting@NormanOK.gov. If you're still waiting on supporting documents, such as a birth certificate or transcripts, submit your completed PHS by the deadline and send the remaining documents as soon as they become available. Do not scan or send photos of the PHS, as those files create processing issues.
Your PHS is one of the most important parts of the hiring process and serves as the foundation of your background investigation. This is your final opportunity to correct or clarify any information provided on your initial questionnaire. Be complete, factual, and honest. Omissions, inconsistencies, or misleading information—especially regarding past drug use or criminal history—may be considered deception and can result in your removal from the hiring process.
If you have questions about how to document something, contact a recruiter before submitting your PHS. We're happy to help ensure it is completed correctly.
Important: Your completed PHS must be emailed no later than November 30. Late submissions cannot be accepted. If you need printed copies or assistance having the waiver notarized, contact a recruiter for assistance.

Interview Board
Once you have successfully completed the previous steps, you will receive a link to schedule your interview board.

When you arrive, we will take a photograph to attach to your application and provide you with a copy of the interview questions. You'll have a few minutes to review the questions and organize your thoughts before entering the interview room.
Plan to dress professionally in business attire. Avoid casual clothing such as jeans, shorts, or flip-flops. Arrive early, well-prepared, and ready to interview.
One of the best ways to prepare is to practice. Have a friend or family member conduct a mock interview, or practice answering questions out loud on your own. Familiarizing yourself with common interview questions can help improve your confidence and performance.

Once you complete the Interview, you should be contacted within 1-2 weeks. If you were selected, you will move onto the rest of the Hiring Process.
